September is National Classical Music Month

Did you know that there is a whole month dedicated to the beauty of classical music? September is National Classical Music Month, which was officially declared in 1994 by President Bill Clinton. Classical music has been written as early as Medieval Times, with music such as Gregorian Chants being the main form of the times. When the printing press was invented during the Renaissance Era, composers were able to print and share their works, spreading the beauty of music further than ever before.

Have you heard of Bach, Handel, or Vivaldi? These were all famous composers from the Baroque era, when concertos and oratorios became common. This was followed by Classical composers such as Beethoven and Mozart. Emotions and expressiveness dictated works in the Romantic period, with composers like Chopin, Wagner, and Brahms debuting works with expanded brass and woodwind sections.

I honor of the month, I challenge you to listen to at least one classical work a day. Try to listen to different composers from different periods to see how the music grew with time. Do you have a favorite composer or song?
