October is National Country Music Month!

Approved by the US Senate in 1970, National Country Music Month celebrates the musicians, songs, and stories of country music. Since its beginning in the 1920s in the rural South, what started as “hillbilly music” has grown into a much-beloved national and international genre, eventually growing evolving into sub-genres like western swing, bluegrass, and honky-tonk music. Country music grew from African American blues, gospel, Mexican and Western dance styles mixed with folk music from Irish, Scottish, and English settlers in the South. The early country songs typically favored acoustic instruments, such as guitars and banjos and basses. As people of the South migrated to different parts of the United States, country music spread and became wildly popular. with its style constantly evolving and changing with the times. What is your favorite country song?
